Mishka presents Mark Todd “Power Fury” Exhibition

Mark Todd uses the visual tropes of comic art and inventive fantasy as the creative impetus for his work. His interest in the deconstruction of pop cultural icons such as X-Men, Iron Man and the Fantastic Four prove even more alluring when coupled with his post modern sensibility. The subjects almost become erased through a process of repetition, distortion and the use of mixed media materials including spray paint, cel-vinyl glossy varnishes and dusty stains. The pieces are rounded at the edges, appearing as prized objects or tablets encoded with some of civilization’s most iconic collective wisdom.

Mark Todd graduated with honors from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California in 1993. He then moved to New York City, working with clients such as MTV, Coca-Cola, Sony Music, The New Yorker and The MTA. In 2003, he moved back to southern California with his wife and fellow artist, Esther Pearl Watson and their daughter Lili. Recently, his work has broaden over the last several years to include gallery exhibitions, working with book publishers and teaching at Art Center College of Design while still creating for clients such as McSweeney’s and The New York Times. Opening on Thursday April 15th, Mishka presents a series of work from Mark Todd at their Brooklyn based 350 Broadway gallery. The show is a collection of work from the celebrated illustrator who’s range has graced the likes of McSweeneys and The New York Times. The Mark Todd show will run through May 13th, 2010 with two limited edition Mark Todd x Mishka tees available for purchase at 350 Broadway.
